Honor Guard Academy

Location & Dates: Camp Dawson, WV for July 2nd through 8th, 2026, plus mandatory virtual training June 26-28, 2026.

The Mid-Atlantic Region (MAR) Honor Guard Academy's (HGA's) objective is to provide leadership training to cadets that will enable them to implement the Honor Guard Program within their individual wings and units. The Honor Guard Program contributes to both Civil Air Patrol and Mid-Atlantic Region by providing a highly visible public relations program through color guard and other ceremonial activities. It allows cadets and seniors to become Ambassadors for Civil Air Patrol and assist with both recruiting and retention.

The MAR HGA will provide training in four Honor Guard Elements: (1) The Color Guard and Colors Element, (2) The Ceremonial Element, (3) The Funeral Element, and (4) The Flag Element. 

There will be advanced training flights and staff positions for cadets who have graduated from the Basic course.

There are three application options for this activity in Registration Zone:

• Honor Guard Academy - Basic. This is for first year attendees. (CLOSES 15 Jan, 2026, at noon CENTRAL)
• Honor Guard Academy - Advanced. For students who have graduated from the Basic course. (CLOSES 15 Jan, 2026, at noon CENTRAL)
• Honor Guard Academy - Staff. Staff dates are July 1st through 9th, 2026. For cadet and senior staff. Cadet staff applicants must have previously graduated from Basic Honor Guard Academy to apply. (LIMITED OPENINGS)

MANDATORY virtual training will take place June 26-28, 2026.

Advanced course applicants must have completed an honor guard academy 

Staff:

Cadets: MAR HGA graduate, or equivalent experience considered approved by the Activity Director

Senior Members: Level II completed and recorded in eServices
